Monday, May 15. Hopewell to Ashland, VA. Today's route took us through the Civil War Battlefields around Richmond, VA, where we stopped for lunch. We're sitting at an outdoor table at Cafe Gutenberg, next to the Farmer's Market. This part of Richmond (Main St. Downtown) is experiencing the kind of growth that many downtowns are seeing lately. We passed by a lot of new condo construction, and certainly the Cafe Gutenberg (Books, Coffee and Wine Lounge) is doing a brisk business this afternoon at nearly 2pm.
We've had a beautiful morning for riding--cool temps, and a mix of sun and clouds. We're planning to stop at the library here in downtown Richmond before riding on to our final destination, Ashland, about 18 miles ahead. The jury is still out on camping or hotelling--there will be a weather.com check at the library before any final decisions are made.
Lunch at Cafe Gutenberg is great. Sandwiches made with artisan breads, and Gelati Celesti ice cream for dessert. Gotta go now--the ice cream is here!

How close are you to your timeline? From my count it's day 24 of your travels and your schedule had you coming into Ashland, VA on travel day 21.
Looks like the route has worked great for the first 1,000 miles - only 5,900 more to go!
Lots of Adventures at the GAG! I'll call and give you the updates.
One more thing - Lawrenceville, GA to Ashland, VA is only 520 miles by gas guzzlers. Of course, the route isn't quite as scenic...
Greets to the webmaster of this wonderful site! Keep up the good work. Thanks.
