This field is actually the Malvern Battlefied, near Richmond, VA. The
battlefield was the scene of last of the 7 Days Battle. Nearly 8,000 lives
were lost, with no discernible gain in the war. The mystery grain covers
the battlefield now, as far as the eye can see.
