Deere John,

We've been passing by a LOT of fields planted with this grain--and we have

no idea what it is. Anyone?

It looks like a variety of wheat. Wheat is grown in Virginia both for silage and for use in distilling whiskey. I imagine the wheat that grows there would be somewhat different than the wheat grown in the Northwest, or even in the midwest. (You'll see lots of it in Kansas, I'll bet.)

Probably a soft red winter wheat.
