Our First Day Off

Our First Day Off

While at the KOA, we saw a brochure for the Silver Coast Winery. Since we

were taking the day off, we decided to cycle the 8 mile round-trip out for a

visit. While we were having lunch before taking the tour, I called my

wine-consultant, Demetrios. He not only knew of the winery, but had been

there! His recommendations of the Touriga and the Sangiovese were spot-on,

and we enjoyed tasting 6 of their reds. The funny part is that Silver Coast

doesn't grow their own grapes; the coastal soil isn't good for most wine

grapes. So, they "import" their grapes from Georgia! Most of their grapes

come from Blackstock Winery, which hosts one of our favorite annual bike

rides. You can choose from various bicyle routes, and when you finish up,

Blackstock opens their gates, serves up a gourmet lunch including a

wine-tasting--all while overlooking their vineyard. It's heavenly!

Hi guys! I've been following your journey with keen interest. Wishing I was there too! BTW, while you're in NC, try their version of a BBQ sandwich. It's got cole slaw on it. Sounds wierd but it rocks. Jim S

Who said you could take a day off?

Deannie says Hi. Today she took her first ride on the Harley after the knee replacements. All went well.

Hope you enjoyed the wine. Now get back to work.

Howdy. Thanks for the updates and the pictures too. Glad to hear all is going well.

Becky installed the bees today and only got stung once. Not bad for having to stick her hand down into the box of 10,000 bees to retrieve the dropped queen. Look for her blog update in a day or two.
